Ladies of LandCare: Shawna Herr

What's Happening at LandCare

Our next Women’s History Month feature is Shawna Herr, Regional Controller in the Northeast.

How did you get your start in the green industry?

I’ve been with LandCare since right after I graduated college. I earned a degree in Psychology but didn’t really want to go into that field so I interviewed for an Administrative Assistant position. And so, my life in the green industry began…. 14 years later, I’m still here. I’ve jumped around a bit, dabbled in sales, spent some time in National Accounts, now a Controller, but always stayed with LandCare.

What, in your opinion, are the most challenging and rewarding parts of your job?

Time management is the most challenging part of my job, being able to manage needs for several different branches, my deadlines and miscellaneous items people need. It’s a constant juggling act, but I love it. I’m always learning something new from The Principles of Mowing to an Excel formula I’ve never used. It keeps me engaged.

Do you have any advice for women who are currently looking for opportunities in the industry?

I’d tell them the same thing I tell my kids –  if you find something you enjoy, you go for it.

Who is your role model and why?

My mom has always been my role model. Cliché, I know, but it’s still my honest answer. She taught me that nothing in life is handed to you; you have to work hard to get what you want.
