San Diego teams revitalize Healing Garden at Children’s Hospital

What's Happening at LandCare

Three LandCare teams recently designed and installed a new landscape for The Leichtag Family Healing Garden at Rady Children’s Hospital, a nonprofit healthcare facility dedicated exclusively to pediatric care and research in San Diego, to kick off CommunityCare Day in 2019.

The San Diego teams spent the day removing old mulch, debris, and over 200 struggling plants within and around the garden. The plants were replaced with low-maintenance mondo grass, while a dying Olive tree was removed to accommodate a young Magnolia “Little Gem”. The irrigation system was repaired and adjusted to satisfy the garden’s new additions.

The Healing Garden is a colorful outdoor oasis offering children and their families an escape from the stressful environment of the hospital. Ornate walkways are surrounded by plants and various sculptures donated by local and national artists.

“The Garden is a humbling, special place at Rady Children’s Hospital. We were honored to play a role in refreshing it,” said Jim Kelley, Southwest RVP.
